Prayer for the Holy Spirit
This is the guts of what I pray over each seat in our church most Sunday mornings before church. Holy Spirit, come.
Hey God, thanks for being with us and being present with us. Lord I pray that you would fill each person in your church with your Holy Spirit.
I pray that your Holy Spirit would be manifest through each person continually growing in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Gal 5:22-23
I pray that your Holy Spirit would empower us with supernatural gifts.
Let there be speaking in tongues, and the interpretation thereof, which leads to prophecy.
Through prophecy, may there be words of knowledge revealing that which cannot be naturally known. Let there be words of wisdom to know how to respond to that knowledge and circumstances around us. And give us discernment of spirits to understand the source of teachings whether they are from you, or to recognize the source of issues through which you wish to demonstrate your power.
Then let there be gifts of healings, and let people be delivered from spirits that are afflicting their bodies, minds, spirits, and relationships. Let there also be amazing miracles of supernatural protection and provision. ~1 Co 12:8-10
Thank you, Jesus for sending your Holy Spirit to comfort, teach and empower us to do your work.
Holy Spirit, I pray that you would appoint various ministers to build up the body of the church.
Lord, appoint teachers to inspire a passion to learn about you and study your word. People who can provide guidance in doctrine for new believers as well as those who have walked this path for a lifetime.
Lord, appoint pastors to govern the community and care for the everyday activities and the general welfare of the Church. Anoint them with a passion for their flock, particularly to go after the one who has strayed from the ninety-nine.
Lord, appoint evangelists with a passion to reach those outside the church, and to fire up a conviction of sin, and lead people to repentance. Lord, fill them with your miraculous wonder-working power to pour out your loving supernatural power, particularly to draw unbelievers to you.
Lord, appoint prophets who have a particular gifting to minister to your body by perceiving what cannot naturally be seen. Whether that is of the past, present, or future. Lord, give them a deep understanding of your Word, to be able to judge revelations, and to confirm that they are from you. Lord, anoint them to pray for your people and speak into that which is at the root of their issues, that they might be set free.
And Lord, appoint apostles who generalize over each of these areas, to bring governance and council to your ministers and authorities locally, nationally, and internationally. Gift them with patterns for your church to follow and for other apostles to implement. Father, anoint them with supernatural wisdom and discernment to guide us at this time. Anoint them with the power to wisely appoint and empower your ministers.
Thank you, Lord, that you’re appointing different kinds of ministers to complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses, to serve and build up the body of Christ. Eph 4:11-13
Lord, thank you for continuing to pour out your Holy Spirit over your church, empowering us with all authority in Heaven and Earth to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to fulfil your commandments. Thank you that you are with us to the end of the age. Mat 28:18-20
Amen
