My faith journey: God’s provision
God is teaching me Psalm 23 and “Give us this day our daily bread”
- The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
- He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters.
- He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
- Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.
- You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
- Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
A few weeks ago, I finished a contract. When I walked out of there, I had no job leads. That morning I had been rejected during a job interview – cut short because I wasn’t what they were after. I was aware of God’s reassuring me of the above – he provided daily for millions of Israeli refugees under Moses leadership – he can provide for me and my family. Later that afternoon, I had a message “actually I might have work for you, but maybe just a few weeks”. That sounded better than nothing. The following Monday, I walked into a new client where I spent two weeks. I had a great time and walked away from a job well done and sufficient money for our “daily bread”. Before this contract, God provided me with a couple of days to rest.
This week, God is making me to lie down in green pastures again. A recruiter is putting me forward to the only managerial role I would consider – in an area where it would be difficult to find a more technically experienced candidate. In the mean time, I’ve been resting – seemingly too much in the green pastures of FaceBook and YouTube, but I’m sure God has his purpose in my procrastinations and open philosophications. I feel rather helpless – just waiting for a job to fall in my lap, but I can only wait on the fish to come to the bait I’ve been throwing out over the years.
Today our Chinese student, Peter, is leaving us. God has provided the time for us to just sit down and talk.
I’m naturally anxious about how I will provide for my family, but God has a greater purpose. He provides us with our daily bread, but he also provides us with much needed rest.
