How bad can things get?

8 July 2020 by Brent

This question is often stated rhetorically to prove that the end of the age is imminent.  The answer, however, presents a stronger argument that the end of the age could be generations away.  The evils of today’s society are nothing compared to ancient times.  Well known examples of morally depraved empires were insufficient to require …

The Apostacy

4 July 2020 by Brent

2 Thessalonians 2:1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us – whether by a prophecy, word of mouth, or by letter – asserting that the day of the Lord …

Biblical Future Timelines

12 November 2020 by Brent

I’ve put together some timelines of scripture verses around end times.  This provides a great perspective of how everything fits together.  Some things fall nicely into place, and others seem to hang out of context. This perspective is important to correct sensational ideas that circulate regularly.  For example, some see the ozone hole, and claim …

The Restrainer

11 May 2020 by Brent

One of my key objections to much end-times teaching is the concept of “the Restrainer”. 2 Thessalonians 2:1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us – whether by a …

God says “I hate your noisy songs”

10 May 2020 by Brent

My spirit is totally grieved hearing that “Hundreds of Californian churches plan to open May 31”, in defiance to the government so they can open on Pentecost.  Some may be mis-following prophecies, that a great revival will start on Pentecost.  Maybe, but God is not going to bless our rebellion.  This Pentecost is not the …

The choice between life and choice

8 May 2020 by Brent

The world is split between Pro Life and Pro Choice.  This dilemma goes back to the Garden of Eden.  Choosing the ability to choose between good and evil forfeits life. Genesis 2:15 Then the Lord God took Adam and put him in the garden of Eden to look after it.  16The Lord God commanded Adam, …

Brent’s parable of the Christmas story

6 May 2020 by Brent

Everyone’s familiar with the classic nativity play with the donkey and the three wise men gathered at the stable on a beautiful “Silent Night ♫”.  Fewer are aware that the donkey is never mentioned in the gospels, nor is a stable, and we don’t know how many wise men there were, but they brought three …

An overview of biblical history yet future

27 April 2020 by Brent

The Bible records the history of the Jewish people since creation.  Some of this is written in advance in prophecy.  The New Testament carries a mantra of “as it is written by the prophet…”.  Many denounce the book of Daniel as written after the fact because it so clearly outlines the rulers succeeding him but …

Prophecy vs. Prophecy

25 April 2020 by Brent

1 Thessalonians 5:20 Don’t despise prophecies. This is understood in two different ways: Don’t despise God’s revelation through the Holy Spirit i.e. the words of godly people around you Don’t despise God’s revelation through the Bible i.e. the words of prophets recorded in the Bible I feel like I’m caught between two different camps.  I …

The Antichrist Prophecies

18 April 2020 by Brent

In an attempt to understand the nature of the Antichrist, I’ve gathered relevant scriptures and translated them into my own words, while I contemplate how they all fit together.  In discussing this, it’s important to not conform with other’s teachings, but to come to my own conclusion.  You should consider this in comparison with others’ …

Singing in tongues

About Brent

As the son of life-long pastors of the Salvation Army, I grew up surrounded by God and solid Bible teaching. Although a professional software engineer, I’ve always been a church musician and am preoccupied with contemplating God and understanding and defending the integrity of the Bible. Brent presents an unusual, provocative perspective.

I hope to leave you with more questions than answers and a desire to seek God.
