The climate is changing

19 April 2020 by Brent

Antichristians would love the church to preach about climate change.  Well, I’m gonna give ‘em what they’re asking for. The climate is changing.  You can’t stop it, and you can’t run away from it.  If you run to the mountains, they’ll fall on you.  If you run to the forest, it will burn.  If you …

Is the Covid-19 Pandemic from God?

3 April 2020 by Brent

I pose this question to test your theology.  Warning: I’m not writing to those who seek a comfortable religion, but to put your faith through the fire, to refine it towards perfection.  For example, if you’re offended by the question, please allow me to offend you further, by suggesting this may be due to having …

Comfort in the pandemic

16 March 2020 by Brent

Psalm 91:10 No harm will come to you. No sickness will come near your house.” There are many comforting scriptures as we face pandemics, but sometimes these are taken out of context.  This entire Psalm is wonderful comfort and highly recommended reading at this time. God brings us peace in the trouble, and the ability …

Mary, Mother of God

11 March 2020 by Brent

Some churches speak of Mary as being the Mother of God, and the Queen of Heaven.  Her perpetual virginity is a core doctrine associated with this.  In the German state of Bavaria, they have a public holiday for Mary’s Ascension Day.  Some pray to saints and Martyrs asking them to intercede on their behalf, particularly …

Marriage and Sexuality in the Bible

29 February 2020 by Brent

I was recently asked what I think about homosexuality.  I’d like to reply, “That’s the wrong question”.  However, that doesn’t satisfy genuine curiosity.  It’s the wrong question because it’s used to bait Christians into an answer, which is then used to slander Christians of being bigoted homophobes.  Ironically, the word bigot means “A person who …

Is Muhammad prophesied in the Bible?

29 February 2020 by Brent

A friend suggested I investigate Muslim claims that Muhammad is the prophet promised in the Bible.  The argument orients around the Greek word Parqaleeta, translated as comforter in: John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with …

Should we be worshiping on Saturday?

22 February 2020 by Brent

I had a couple of guys pop in last Sunday from a church near the Palms mall.  We had quite a debate about worshiping on Saturday.  My daughter also had a similar encounter on the streets recently.  I’d like to clear up this issue. Christians have generally been worshipping on Sundays as far back as …

The Tribulation

31 January 2020 by Brent

The Tribulation is prophesied as seven-years of God’s judgement of the Earth.  Many have analyzed Biblical texts to understand the details of how this will play out.  I will only provide an overview of the tribulation and leave the details to more astute scholars.  However, there are many commonly taught points that I disagree on. …

The Story of Christmas

22 December 2019 by Brent

The gospel stories repeat a mantra of “as it was written”, linking events in Jesus’ life with ancient prophecies.  Christianity uniquely proves itself through the fulfillment of ancient prophecies.  I’ve put the story of Jesus’ birth into my own words, in chronological order, with footnotes of the prophecies referred to.  This is part of a …

Who is Jesus?

22 December 2019 by Brent

Native people are often astonished to hear Jesus’ genealogy.  I’ve personally had the pleasure of witnessing such astonishment.  They understand the idea that Jesus is God, but this proves that Jesus is also truly human.  Many native tribes treasure their genealogies and receive these otherwise boring texts with great excitement, because if he was human, …

Singing in tongues

About Brent

As the son of life-long pastors of the Salvation Army, I grew up surrounded by God and solid Bible teaching. Although a professional software engineer, I’ve always been a church musician and am preoccupied with contemplating God and understanding and defending the integrity of the Bible. Brent presents an unusual, provocative perspective.

I hope to leave you with more questions than answers and a desire to seek God.
