Lucifer's Fall
However, one of God's three top angels - Lucifer became proud and rebelled, seeking to be honoured above God himself. Lucifer was removed from his position in heaven and became known as Satan or the Devil. A third of the angels had sided with him and were also removed from their positions in heaven with him.
God has made a place for Satan and his cohorts, called hell, where they will be punished forever for their rebellion. But for now, God has allowed these rebels to interact with his creation to prove those who will remain loyal to God and are worthy of living with him for eternity.
