The Story of the Bible
Samuel

Samuel: 1100BC

The last judge was Samuel - a boy born to a woman who desperately cried out to God for a child, promising to give the child back to God once weaned. 1 Samuel 1 He was raised by a priest named Eli. One night, he heard a man's voice calling him. He went to Eli and asked him what he wanted. Eli told him he hadn't called him. This happened again. Eli realised that Samuel must be hearing from God, so he told Samuel next time he heard the voice, to reply, "Here I am - I'm listening". When he did this, God spoke with him. Samuel became a Judge of Israel. He was known as a seer or a prophet because God revealed things to him. 1 Samuel 3
